Count one hand

Each tile is worth the sum of both halves. [6|4] is 10, [0|5] is 5 and [0|0] is 0. Do not count the number of tiles or assign a special value to double-blank. Sum all remaining pips for a seat’s total.

A winning blocked hand

Team A’s seats have 9 and 12 pips, totaling 21. Team B’s seats have 14 and 10, totaling 24. If no one can fit either end, A wins with 21 and scores 24 points, not the three-point difference.

Tie and going out

A blocked 21 against 21 has no winner and no award. If someone goes out before a block, their team wins even if their partner has many pips left. The award still sums both opponents’ remaining pips.

When the board is blocked

One pass does not prove the whole board is blocked; other players may still hold a useful tile. A block exists when no remaining tile in any player’s hand matches either end. Mesa can recognize that block without requiring passes that cannot change the board.
