One vira, two special pieces

We use a 40-card Spanish deck. One face-up card, the vira, determines the hand’s Perico and Perica: the knight and jack of its suit, with the king substituted where needed. Those pieces outrank the ace of swords.

Two ways to sit down

A duel has two players. Partnership games have four seats, with teammates opposite. The current target is 24 points and both formats follow the same call ladder: Truco, Retruco, Vale nueve and Vale partido.

Read the opening before raising

Envido is optional: on your turn, you can call Truco without calling Envido first. Before your first card you can also call Envido, including while answering Truco; resolve that Envido first, then answer the pending Truco. Accept + Retruco accepts and raises in one move. Flor must be declared and takes precedence over Envido.
